The Thytronic Bay Monitoring Unit (BMU) is responsible for monitoring and recording electrical parameters and protection device behaviour during transient events. Thytronic’s oscillographic disturbance recordings comply with Annex A.7 of the Terna Grid Code, ensuring full adherence to TSO requirements.
Like the BCU, the BMU is part of the iBU family and is housed in a 19” rack-mounted chassis with redundant power supplies and modular boards.
It connects to the station LAN, transmitting recordings in COMTRADE format (IEEE C37.111- 2013) and using IEEE C37.232 naming conventions for seamless storage and transmission to TSO central control systems.
The Thytronic BMU is Terna-certified and deployed in both private and Terna-operated substations within SAS and DIGIS frameworks.
